Delilah took a deep breath and looked out the car window, across the street at the orphanage.

"Are you okay?" Asked Vincent.

Delilah nodded, not trusting herself to speak, she swallowed.

"I'm gonna leave the car here so no one sees it. You think you can get over there on your own?" He checked.

She nodded, slowly opening the car door.

"Ok, I'll see you when it's time to start the fire." Said Vincent as Delilah stepped out of the car.

She crossed the street and slipped into the shed in the corner of the grounds. It was filled with equipment used to maintain the grounds appearance, shears, gardening gloves, rakes, shuvels, bags of mulch, a wheel barrow, seed packets, a hacksaw, a watering can, a weed whacker and a big green riding mower.

Delilah grabbed a trowel, then walked outside with it hidden beneath her coat until she got back inside, Sister Constance was guarding the doors.

"Where have you been all day, Delilah???" She asked in her deep Irish brogue, "We missed you at lunch."

"I'm sorry, sister, I lost track of time." Answered Delilah, keeping her eyes downcast and praying the old nun didn't notice her gargantuan teeth.

There was an ominous pause. "Well that's alright for now, but you'll have to get inside soon." Said Sister Constance.

"Could I put this trowel back in the shed first? It was in one of the flower beds." Said Delilah, holding up the small shuvel.

"Alright, but be quick about it, looks like rain." Said the sister, turning away.

Delilah ran back outside, across the lawn and into the shed, but then she stopped, face to face with Vincent who had apparently beat her there. He was holding a piece of grayish cloth in one hand.

"What's that?" Asked Delilah suspiciously.

Vincent motioned behind him toward the corpse, "Terra's dress."

Delilah stared, "You undressed the corpse?!?!"

"Yea, it's not like she's much to look at anymore. . . You have to switch clothes in case they don't burn all the way."

Delilah frowned, she knew he was right, but wearing a dead stranger's dress was not an appealing thing.

She sighed, "Ok, turn around."

Vincent complied and soon enough Delilah was clad in the ratty, once elegant, mid length dress. Which, aside from having very thin cloth was actually in very good condition and even came close to being the right size for Delilah.

She looked back at her wings sticking out of the split in the back in between the two halves of the zipper, "uh. . . Vincent, could you. . ?"

Vincent turned back around, "Oh, yea." He quickly crammed Delilah's wings into the dress and zipped it up, then using his finger he tore two large slits in the back of the dress and pulled her wings through them, "Better?" He asked.

She nodded.

"Ok, let's get to work, if we don't act quick they might send someone to look for you." He said.

She nodded, "I'll redress the corpse." She said picking up her clothes.

"And I'll start a fire." Said Vincent, turning toward the mower.

Delilah knelt down by the nearly naked corpse and began to gingerly dress it in her old clothes, shirt first, then the old blue jeans, the black jacket and last but not least the ratty converses, which were much too big for Terra.

Delilah turned to see a blazing fire atop the tractor, but Vincent was nowhere to be seen, suddenly a shelf covered in mulch and garden gloves toppled over and onto the corpse.

Delilah gasped, turning quickly, Vincent grinned at her from behind the spreading flames, "That's why you couldn't get out." He said.

Delilah nodded, picking up Terra's old shoes, much to small for her to wear.

Vincent took her hand and helped her across the shelf, not yet burning. He kicked a hole in the brittle wall of the shed and pried off piece after piece until the hole was large enough for them to fit through. Then, together, they slipped out into the fresh air and fled the scene.
ah, so it continues.
not very well written, but oh, if you could only see the look on these characters' faces as they do the things they do
it would be a much richer experience for you.
